Year after year, the Sampson Community College Foundation hosts its annual Campus Drive fundraiser – where the college’s faculty and staff come together to donate toward student scholarships. Sampson Community College boasts full employee participation in the campus drive fundraiser – the only community college in the state to say so. This level of involvement speaks to the faculty and staff’s commitment to students and its dedication to the mission of the college.
Each year, the Campus Drive is themed, and employees are divided into teams to encourage participation. This year, there was a Rock n’ Roll theme – “Sampson Rocks the Campus Drive.” Typically, a buffet lunch is served, speakers participate, and the Foundation announces the Faculty and Staff EXCEL Award, which recognizes employees who go above and beyond. This year, the event was a bit condensed. Instead, the college served box lunches, created a video to celebrate its EXCEL winners, and had a sort of “floating” Campus Drive.
Despite these changes, donations from the college’s dedicated employees persisted. For the 34th consecutive year, 100 percent of SCC employees participated in the fundraiser, with donations totaling more than $12,000.
Dean of Advancement, Lisa Turlington, expressed her gratitude and pride in the college’s employees.
“It is exciting to the pride that our staff and faculty take in the work they are doing here at Sampson. In addition to daily technical, advising, and academic support for our students, these generous gifts make a big difference through scholarships and programming. I owe a big thank you to Campus Drive captains, Myra Gray and Marion Pope for leading the charge year after year,” Turlington stated.
Next on the Sampson Community College Foundation’s event schedule is the 18th Annual Sampson Classic Golf Tournament on Friday, November 6 at Lakewood Country Club. All funds raised go toward student scholarships. Visit sampsoncc.edu/foundation for more information.
